Kona's First & Longest-Running HBOT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Discover the healing power of HBOT — a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that enhances oxygen absorption to promote healing.

What Is HBOT?

Pressurized Oxygen, Powerful Healing

Hyperbaric therapy is a medical treatment that uses an increase in atmospheric pressure to help the body absorb more oxygen. At sea level, the lungs absorb a normal amount of oxygen — but at increased atmospheric pressure, the body can gather a much greater volume and absorb it more easily.

Our mild hyperbaric oxygen chamber operates at 1.3 ATA, equivalent to the pressure felt at 13 feet underwater. Patients equalize pressure the same way a diver would — by pinching and blowing through the nose. HBOT allows oxygen to infuse with blood, plasma, and even cerebral fluids, so healing begins as soon as damaged tissue receives the oxygen and circulation it needs.

How Does a Session Work?

You'll lie or sit comfortably in the spacious, window-equipped chamber and breathe pure oxygen from an oxygen concentrator via a mask or nasal cannula. Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes and are carefully monitored by our trained practitioners — if you feel any discomfort, it's easy to reach the support staff and adjust treatment as needed. Low-pressure hyperbaric therapy is extremely safe, and any minor risks are discussed with you before treatment begins.

Conditions Treated by Hyperbaric Therapy

Published studies support HBOT for a range of acute and chronic conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis, acute carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, air embolism, diabetic foot wounds, infections, burns, ulcers and edema.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Recent studies show HBOT can be effective in treating the lingering effects of concussions and TBIs from accidents, sports injuries or falls.

Stroke Recovery

Post-stroke patients treated with HBOT have shown improved neurological function and quality of life, even at chronic, late stages.

Neurological Conditions

Perhaps HBOT's most promising application — research points to strong clinical outcomes for acute neurological conditions.

Sports Injuries & Recovery

Used to help athletes return to competition faster, with evidence of increased endurance, decreased post-workout fatigue, and faster recovery from muscular injury.

Neuropathy & Nerve Pain

The oxygen-rich environment can reduce nerve pain, help regenerate nerve endings, improve circulation, and promote healing — common with diabetes, HIV or sciatica.

Inflammation

Studies show HBOT can significantly decrease markers of inflammation across a range of conditions.

Autism Spectrum

Children with autism treated with HBOT have shown improvements in overall functioning, receptive language, social interaction and eye contact versus a control group.

Cancer Support

Emerging evidence suggests HBOT may have tumor-inhibitory effects in certain cancer subtypes, as a complement to primary treatment.

Questions

HBOT Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

HBOT is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This enhances the amount of oxygen in your blood, promoting healing, improving circulation, and supporting overall wellness.

How does HBOT work?

By increasing the oxygen level in your blood, HBOT stimulates the body's natural healing processes. It helps reduce inflammation, promote cell regeneration, and boost immune function, making it effective for recovery from injuries and various health conditions.

What are the benefits of HBOT?

HBOT promotes faster healing, reduces inflammation, improves circulation, supports brain function, enhances energy levels, and helps with conditions like chronic pain, brain injury, sports injuries, and skin recovery. It's also known for its stress-reducing and relaxation effects.

Is HBOT safe?

Yes, HBOT is generally safe when performed under the supervision of trained professionals. The chamber is designed to be user-friendly, and risks are minimal. A 1.3 ATA chamber is especially safe and without most of the risks of the higher pressure chambers.

How long does a typical HBOT session last?

A typical HBOT session lasts between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your specific treatment plan. Sessions are typically relaxing, and many clients enjoy reading, sleeping or meditating during the process.

How often should I have HBOT?

The frequency of sessions varies depending on individual goals. For general wellness, 2–3 sessions per week may be recommended, while those recovering from injuries or managing chronic conditions may benefit from more frequent treatments. Your provider will recommend a personalized plan.

What's the difference between a 1.3 ATA and a 2.5 ATA chamber?

A 1.3 ATA chamber is gentler and more comfortable, offering great benefits for wellness and recovery with minimal risk of side effects. A 2.5 ATA chamber provides higher pressure for more intense therapeutic effects, and is also associated with more side effects. The 1.3 ATA chamber is well suited to those seeking a safe, comfortable, effective and more cost-affordable treatment.

Will I feel claustrophobic in the chamber?

The chambers are spacious and designed with comfort in mind. Most users feel relaxed during their sessions, and if you experience any discomfort, you can exit the chamber at any time. It's important to discuss any concerns with your provider beforehand.

Can HBOT help with sports injuries?

Yes — HBOT is widely used by athletes to speed up recovery from sports injuries, reduce inflammation, and increase oxygen supply to tissues for faster healing. It's an effective tool for enhancing recovery after workouts or injuries.

Do I need a prescription for HBOT?

For general wellness or non-medical use, no prescription is typically required for a 1.3 ATA chamber. However, if you're seeking HBOT for specific medical conditions, it's best to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the appropriate course of treatment.

Are there any side effects of HBOT?

Side effects are rare but can include ear popping or sinus discomfort due to pressure changes. These are usually temporary and resolve quickly. The 1.3 ATA chamber offers a lower risk of side effects compared to higher pressure treatments.

How do I prepare for an HBOT session?

There's minimal preparation required. It's recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid heavy meals or caffeine right before your session. You may also be asked to remove items such as jewelry or cosmetics that can be affected by oxygen.

Is HBOT suitable for everyone?

While HBOT is generally safe, it may not be suitable for individuals with certain conditions, such as untreated lung disease, severe respiratory problems, or certain types of ear issues. It's important to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure HBOT is right for you.

Is HBOT covered by my insurance?

HBOT chambers at 1.3 ATA do not meet the requirements for insurance-covered services. Your insurance will not be billed and no "superbill" will be provided, as it's considered a non-covered service and is not eligible for reimbursement.
