I have been very happy with Dr. De Soto (and previously Dr. Wood) at Koa Clinic, along with all of the support staff. Communication is easy by phone, portal and text message, which is not always the case with other providers. Highly recommended!

Dr. DeSoto is very concerned about her patients. She never rushes us, asks very considerate, yet informative questions so that she can do a better job in treating you. We also like that she is not afraid to refer you to another Dr or specialist when necessary. She is very pleasant, polite and you can tell she is genuinely concerned about you.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What services does The Koa Clinic offer?

We offer a broad spectrum of services including:

  • Integrative Primary Care
  • Specialty Naturopathic and Functional Medicine
  • Chinese Medicine (acupuncture, cupping, Chinese herbal therapies)
  • Low-Dose Allergy Immunotherapy
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
  • Infrared Sauna
  • The Vitamin Bar — IVs & shots tailored to your needs
What insurance do you accept?

Coverage varies by provider and plan. Our Naturopathic Physicians and Nurse Practitioners are in-network with HMSA (PPO/Quest/Akamai Advantage), HMAA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UHA, and Medicare/Medicare Advantage plans (coverage varies by provider). Acupuncture coverage may be available through American Specialty Health (ASH), TriCare West, MVA/Personal Injury (PIP), and Workers' Comp with referral.

We'll do our best to help you understand your coverage, but it's ultimately your responsibility to verify your plan's benefits — we recommend calling your insurance to confirm before your visit.

What does my insurance cover?

No insurance plan covers everything we offer. Insurance generally applies to Primary Care visits and a few specific services; most of our specialty offerings are billed as direct-pay.

Typically covered: Primary Care visits, Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) claims, limited Workers' Compensation claims, and Acupuncture (plan dependent).

Direct-pay (non-covered) services: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), IV vitamin & nutrient therapy, Ozone Therapy, Infrared Sauna, specialty/functional labs, Regenerative Medicine (hormone pellets, PRP, exosomes), Community Acupuncture, and Cupping.

Can I ask medical questions over text or portal message?

We're happy to stay connected between visits, but some concerns need a scheduled appointment or E-Visit so we can give you the time and documentation you deserve. Because we continue to accept insurance for primary care, we have to follow insurance billing guidelines — a new concern or a significant change from a previous one may be billed as an E-Visit or require a follow-up appointment.

Simple administrative questions (scheduling, supplement refills already discussed, billing, directions) and clarifications about your most recent visit are always welcome over message.

How soon can I be seen?

New patients: depends on provider availability — anywhere from within a week to a waitlist of up to 3 months. Call or text for current availability.

Regular follow-ups: typically within 1–3 weeks, based on provider availability.

Urgent or acute concerns: a limited number of same-day appointments are available — please call the morning of to inquire.

What are your hours and how can I schedule an appointment?

We're open Monday through Thursday, 9:00am–4:30pm, and Friday, 9:00am–3:30pm. Call or text our office at (808) 638-3343 to schedule — our staff often can't answer live, so for the quickest response, leave a voicemail and/or a text.

What if I have a question about my bill?

Call or text our office at (808) 638-3343, or email our biller directly at Billing@thekoaclinic.com.

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine is healing-oriented care that considers the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — and every aspect of lifestyle. It combines mainstream conventional therapies with complementary approaches like Naturopathic, Functional, and Chinese Medicine, wherever there's evidence of safety and effectiveness.

At The Koa Clinic, our team of practitioners collaborates to help each patient live a life they love. We believe "it takes a village" — our team-based model provides both education and access to high-quality integrated care, leading to empowered individuals and a healthier community.
